The South Bay Sparrows bring a new tradition to the SBL headed by President/Head Coach Ryan Davis. Davis has a vast knowledge of collegiate baseball working at both the collegiate and high school level in recent years. In fact, at Coppin State in 2016, he played a vital role in turning around the program. In 2017, he coached at Compton College as well as Lakeview Charter, where he led his school to a postseason berth.

The Sparrows are led by power hitting outfielder Brandon Chandler, who is currently hitting .361 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI at Avila University. Chandler should be the anchor to the Sparrow lineup.

A pair of Holy Cross players bolster the Sparrows roster in Colin Hector and Riley Livingston. Hector has the size to be an intimidating presence to opponents this season, while Livingston is a talented backstop, who will command the pitching staff.

Another D-1 difference maker is Dejuan Johnson (Grambling State).

South Bay opens its season in SBL play against the defending champion Orange County Surf on Friday, June 9 at Gahr High School.
