The competition has heated up in the Sunset League. Every team is in the playoff hunt and there were a lot of deserving contenders for player of the week. As such, the Sunset League has chosen co-hitters and co-pitchers of the week.

We'll start with the blazing hot Redbirds. Solana Beach gets its first pitcher and hitter of the week selections of the season. The Redbirds have won seven consecutive games and thrust themselves into the SBL contender discussion.

The Solana Beach pitcher of the week is Brycen Mautz (University of San Diego). The Torero has been great this season, but stepped in up a notch this week defeating the So Cal Sparrows in shutout fashion. Mautz went five innings, only allowed two hits and struck out nine.

The Redbird hitter of the week is Gaige Howard (University of New Orleans). Howard has been a big reason why the offense has clicked on all cylinders recently. The senior finished the week 8-for-13 with six walks, four stolen bases, a ridiculous 12 runs scored and three RBI.

The Orange County Legends have a pitcher of the week and he's a very familiar face around the Sunset League. Austin Spinney, who committed to Houston Baptist earlier this year, also earns pitcher of the week accolades. Spinney is the 26th Legends to go from JUCO to D-1 since 2013 for Orange County. This week, the junior tossed five innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just one hit and struck out seven.

The final player of the week is Frank Garriola (Hope International). The red-shirt junior led the way for the first place Ventura County Pirates finishing 11-for-19 with six RBI and six extra base hits (4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR).
