So Cal Shepherds Ready for action

The So Cal Shepherds enter the Best of the West Division in 2021 after playing in the Sunset League the past two years. While 2020 was a challenging year for everyone due to the pandemic, the So Cal Shepherds organization shined. The Shepherds were able to put together a full season of safe baseball, finishing with 23 games played.  The team will look to make major strides in the standings this year as they look forward to more quality competition in 2021.

Returning players include: Jackson Van Ness (Anderson University), Nathan Weatherly (Belhaven University), Joey Scotvold (Rio Hondo), Ben Peters (Undecided), Andrew White (Azusa Pacific), Emery Jackson (Mount Olive) and Roy Washburn (Arizona Christian).

Van Ness hit .317 last season for the Shepherds finishing with 20 hits, 19 runs scored and 14 RBI in 19 games. Scotvold hit .342 and also made 5 appearances on the mound where he posted a microscopic 1.56 ERA. Washburn figures to be one of the aces of the staff in 2021. Last season, he struck out 31 batters in just 22.1 innings. Jackson hit .346 in 12 games.

Key additions to the roster include: Max Montplaisir (Pt Loma Nazarene University), Cayden Katnik (Sonoma State) and Connor Aldrich (Charleston Southern).

The Shepherds open the season Saturday, June 12 on the road against the East LA Dodgers. Their first home game is set for the following day, June 13 against the Arroyo Seco Sentinels. The first Best of the West game will be a road game on June 19 against the Ventura County Pirates.
