VAN NUYS -- The Ventura County Pirates pulled off an epic 9-8 extra inning win against the Long Beach Legends Saturday at LA Valley College.
Johnny Pacheco (CSULA) was the star of the game. Pacheco crushed a grand slam in the eighth inning to tie the game up at 7-7. He then ripped an RBI triple in the 10th inning to tie the game, and scored the winning run on a passed ball.
Carmelo Hernandez (LA Pierce) had a big game with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
Michael Flaherty (Grinnell) and Mark Stanford (CSU San Marcos) each belted two RBI for the Legends.
The Pirates (3-1, 3-5) will play the Inland Valley Buccaneers on Sunday. The teams will finish a game from Thursday and then play their originally scheduled game after.
The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Legends (3-1, 7-2). Long Beach faces the OC Pirates on Monday in a non-league contest.
