VAN NUYS -- The Inland Valley Buccaneers defeated the Ventura County Pirates 10-9 Sunday at LA Valley College.

The Pirates trailed 10-6 entering the ninth inning and made a torrid comeback attempt, but fell just short.

Hayden Winters (Houston) and Cole Smith (St Louis) each blasted a home run and three RBI. Gavin Amelburu (UNLV) had two knocks and scored three times.

Carmelo Hernandez (LA Pierce) ripped a home run and four RBI for Ventura County. Trenton Pallas (Allan Hancock) had a great game as well with three hits, two RBI and one run scored. His Allan Hancock teammate Jacob Ortega provided three hits, one RBI and scored twice.

The Bucs (2-1, 3-3) travel to San Diego for a doubleheader against the San Diego Wave on Wednesday.

The Pirates (2-3, 3-6) host the SF Seals on Wednesday.
