VAN NUYS -- The Ventura County Pirates defeated the So Cal Shepherds 14-3 Wednesday at LA Valley College.

Jacob Ortega (Allan Hancock) blasted a home run and three RBI. Darren Taylor (Chaffey) ripped in three RBI.

Aren Alvarez (UCSD) had a great outing on the bump. He tossed six innings, allowed just one run on two hits and struck out three.

Simms Owens (Motlow State) recorded two of the Shepherds three hits and knocked in two RBI.

The Pirates (9-9) take to the road for a non-conference game against the Santa Barbara Foresters on Thursday.

The Shepherds (6-11) have a matchup with the Inland Valley Buccaneers on Friday.
