VC Pirates Moving On

The Ventura County Pirates moved one step closer to the SBL Championship Game on Saturday with late inning heroics to defeat the Inland Valley Pirates 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

Inland Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run base hit by Christian Lopez.

Inland Valley extended the margin to 3-0 in the third on a Jacob Taylor RBI.

Ventura County scored twice in the fourth to make it a 3-2 game.

The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth when Kyle Soberano doubled and drove in the game-winning run.

Griffin Hagen started the game for the Ventura County Pirates. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up three runs, five hits, and striking out five. Robert Stowell finished the final 1.1 innings and earned the win.

Ventura County plays Thursday at 3 pm, while Inland Valley will have to win two games Thursday starting at 11 am.
