The Socal Sparrows formerly known as the South Bay Sparrows enter their second season in Sunset league play under the direction of Ryan Davis.  After struggling with a  7-18 Sunset League record a year ago, the Sparrows are poised to transform into an SBL contender this season.

The Sparrows feature numerous upgrades in 2018 including securing Vanguard University as their new home and boasting a new pre-game and jersey apparel deal with Adidas. So, we know the Sparrows will look good in 2018, but they will also impress on the diamond.

The Sparrows will take comfort in church, Nathan Church that is. The UC Irvine commit will get it done at the dish and on the mound as well. Church also brings a winning mentality, matriculating from El Toro High where he won a CIF Division Championship at Dodger Stadium.

Another Anteater-to-be is Sam Ireland of Tesoro High School. Ireland should be one of the stabilizing forces in the Sparrows lineup.

Rounding out the freshmen triumvirate is Washington bound, Diego Barrera. The Damien High product should  be an anchor for a Sparrows  pitching staff that is loaded with talent.

Other notable acquisitions are: Sparrows returners from the 2017 season: defensive wizard Shoma Yoshida (Compton College),  Jose Aguilera (Mississippi Valley State University) and Grant Askins (Loyola Marymount University), who hit .417.

Newcomers Mark Strebin (Mcpherson College), Jake Parizzo (Norwich University), Carson Conradt (Cairn University), Travis Nelson (Chaffey College), Josiah Austin (Vanguard University) and Jack Chamberlain ( San Diego Christian College) are also expected to be key contributors to the Sparrows success this season.

The Sparrows will look to fly to the top of the standings in the Sunset Baseball League starting June 8th, when they open SBL play at home against the Solana Beach Red Birds.
