COSTA MESA -- The SoCal Sparrows (7-6-1, 5-5) scored four in the 1st inning and held on for a 5-3 victory over the Signal Hill Oilers (8-6, 5-5) Sunday at Vanguard University.

Derek Zavala (Mt SAC) went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Max Crabbe (San Jose State) knocked in two and scored once.

The SoCal pitching staff was stellar only allowing four hits.

Noel Soto pitched five shutout innings in relief for Signal Hill scattering just two hits, while striking out four. Zachary Rivas provided the only RBI for the Oilers.

The Sparrows host the Solana Beach Redbirds on Thursday.

Signal Hill next contest is Tuesday when they travel to LA Valley College to play the Ventura County Pirates in a doubleheader.
