COSTA MESA -- The SoCal Sparrows (8-6-1, 6-5) held on to defeat the Solana Beach Redbirds (8-10, 4-9) 8-7 Thursday afternoon at Vanguard University.

Leading 8-3 heading into the 9th, the Redbirds plated four runs to cut the deficit to one, but that's as close as they would get.

Jackson Lyon (Cal State Fullerton) finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored twice. Jose Aguilera (Mississippi Valley State) contributed two RBI. Nathan Church (UC Irvine) and Derek Zavala (Mt. SAC) each scored twice.

Andrew Crane (Cal State Monterey) starred for the Redbirds ripping two RBI and scoring twice. Kade Kretzschmar (Dartmouth) added two RBI.

The two teams face each other again Friday at 5 p.m. at Coronado High School.
