History of the Sunset Baseball League

The old Sunset League was a west coast minor league in the late 1940's and the early 1950's.  It was one of the more exciting leagues on the west coast and was known for its dynamic offense and high scoring games.  The old Sunset League had teams based from Reno, NV to El Centro, CA.  It had a strong representation in Southern California with the Riverside Dons, Anaheim Valencias and the Ontario Orioles.  Riverside County and Orange County had their first professional baseball team in the old Sunset League.  The league would eventually merge with the Arizona-Texas League and become the Southwest International League.  In 2016 a new chapter begins for the Sunset Baseball League, but this time as a collegiate league.  Many of the original geographic areas will have teams represented in the new Sunset Baseball League.  Teams will be based in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County, Inland Empire, and San Diego.  The newly formed collegiate Sunset Baseball League will start play in June of 2016.
