The Inland Valley Bucs are one of the premiere collegiate baseball programs in Southern California.
Each and every year, Charlie Reynoso’s mates take the program to the next level.
Players come from far and wide to play for the Bucs. In fact, some schools represented have included Cal State Fullerton, Coppin State, Fordham, Hawaii, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Long Beach State, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Pepperdine, Texas Tech, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.
COVINA -- The #1 Inland Valley Pirates defeated the #4 Inland Valley Buccaneers 13-10 Tuesday at Charter Oak in the first round of the Best of the West Playoffs.
The Bucs got out to a 5-0 lead in the third and a 7-3 lead by the sixth, but it wasn't enough. The Pirates answered with 10 runs from the sixth to eighth innings.
John Pappas had a huge day. The catcher went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Trevor Caton (Mt. SAC) added two RBI and scored twice. Cole Koniarsky (USD) had three hits, one RBI and scored once.
The Bucs were led by Hayden Winters (Houston) and Dominic Masciel (Holy Names). Each blasted a home run.
The Pirates advance to Game 3 Wednesday against the #2 Ventura County Pirates with the winner heading to the Best of the West Championship Series. If they lose, they'll play an elimination game on Thursday for one more chance to make it to the Championship.
The Bucs will face the #3 Long Beach Legends in Game 4 on Wednesday in an elimination game. If the Bucs win, they'll advance to Thursday's Game 5 where the winner will make the Best of the West Championship Series.
The Best of the West has three players to honor this week for stellar performances.
The pitcher of the week is Aaron Moreno (Cal Poly Pomona). The Inland Valley Pirate tossed seven innings, allowed just three hits and one run, while striking out three.
There are co-hitters of the week. First, Moreno's teammate Jacob Sharp (Fullerton College) went 7-for-14 with one home run, six RBI and three runs scored.
The other hitter of the week is Nathan Barraza (CSUN). The Inland Valley Buccaneer finished the week 8-for-17 with five RBI and three runs scored.
CYPRESS -- The Inland Valley Pirates swept a doubleheader against the Inland Valley Buccaneers Wednesday at Cypress College.
The Pirates won both games by one run, but more importantly have now run their win streak to 16!
The Pirates (14-4) look to keep the momentum going on Saturday, when they face the Buccaneers (5-12) one more time.
