The Owner and Founder of "THE RAT PATROL" !

The California Cage Rats were founded in 2015 by collegiate baseball coach and former Associate Head Coach of Westcliff UNIVERSITY baseball program. 

Magno holds two masters degrees: One in Athletic Administration and one in Exercise Science. 

Coach Magno has over three decades of baseball experience. 

Magno has coached at :

  • The Jim Rice Professional Baseball School as its Director of Daily instruction. 
  • Eckerd College in Florida for four years. 
  • All-American Baseball Academy which set up operation in Florida and Long Beach, Which helped develop MLB players like Justin Turner, Travis and Chase d'Arnaud, Nick Pratto, Mark Wagner, Jonathan Singleton, Bobby Wilson, Ryan Dent, Anthony Gose, Ryan Hansen, Zach Wilson, Jon Skorupski, John Riggleman, Rick Nolan, Alex Newman and hundreds more. 
  • Long Beach Beach States Showcase and Scout Camps from 1996-98.
  • Woman’s Professional Baseball League (WBL) and became the bench coach for the Long Beach Lady Aces in 1997. 
  • 1997-99, Magno served as an associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds.  
  • 1999, Magno was invited to assist the Long Beach Breakers of the Western, becoming the bench and hitting coach for the Western League Championship club in 2001 and served under Steve Yeager..  
  • 2001, he began Family Sports Camps (Mister Baseball Enterprises), where he and his staff ran baseball and softball camps, coaching clinics, and group and private baseball lessons and training. 
  • Magno has earned two U.S. patents for inventing baseball training tools and products – The Lighting Stick and Deflector Glove.  
  • At Cal State Dominguez Hills Baseball he was the hitting coach, strength and speed coach, and catching coach and helped the team finish second in the prestigious CCAA baseball conference state championships.
  • Coach Magno worked alongside Shigetoshi "Shiggy" Hasegawa (former Seattle Mariners and Anaheim Angels pitcher) in running the Minnesota Twins scout program (Major League Baseball Academy).
  • He also helped Shiggy run the elite orange county Mazda PTC Elite Scout Team. 
  • He was the head coach at Mayfair High School, where he lead the Monsoons to three Suburban League Championships in four seasons and was awarded the Albert Pujols Coaching Award.
  • Coach Magno is The Southern California Director of The International Sports Association.

Recent California Cage Rats News


After dropping the first eight Sunset League games of the 2022 season, the California Cage Rats broke out in a big way on Sunday.

CCR pounded out a 16-12 victory over the Inland Empire Bucs.

And no one played a bigger role than Jordan Salgado.

The former Glendora High/Rio Hondo College outfielder went 3-for-5, with a solo home run and two doubles.

Salgado scored three runs and drove in five.

The Cage Rats took an 11-run lead in the top of the fifth and held off a late Bucs surge.

Elias Valdez was roughed up for 12 runs on six hits and seven walks, while retiring just three batters.

Dane Goodman walked, singled three times, scored and had one RBI.

Matt DenHartog walked three times, doubled, scored twice and drove in a run.

Payton Lee doubled, had three RBIs and scored two runs.

Jared Pugrad singled twice and scored.

Elias Pacheco had an RBI single.

Jose Casian walked twice, scored two runs and had one RBI.

Landon Trosclair walked, singled and scored twice.

Frank Garcia scored a pair of runs and Gabe Vigil walked and scored

As of 2:45 am, there were not accurate pitching stats for the Cage Rats, but I'll update this story when I get them some time on Monday.

John Olivares and Jack Janes had a big day offensively for the Bucs.

Olivares singled twice, doubled and had three RBIs.

Janes doubled, tripled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Garret Damico walked twice, singled, had one RBI and scored four times.

Evan Avitia went 2-for-4, with a walk, two singles, an RBI and he scored one run.

Andrew Diharce singled twice and scored.

Robert Valdavia singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

Joe Gilkeson had an RBI single.

Benny Vogel walked and scored, and Jared Gener scored once in the loss.

The California Cage Rats were just six outs away from their first win of the season.

They scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-3 lead on Saturday afternoon.

The Quakes Baseball Academy, however, got three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth, and edged the Rats, 6-5, in a Sunset League showdown.

Jose Casian was stuck with the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits over his two-inning outing.

Casian didn't issue a walk and struck out two.

Jared Benash singled twice, doubled, scored and had an RBI.

Shane Stafford had a pair of singles and scored.

Rowan Schneider singled, tripled, scored and had one RBI.

Niko Santamaria singled and drove in a run.

Kevin Reilly singled and scored in Saturday.

AJ Valle went five innings for the Quakes, allowing two runs on four hits.

Valle walked two and fanned six.

AJ Roldan went two scoreless, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out three.

Kenny Gallardo allowed three runs on two hits and two walks, but he picked up the win.

Dane Goodman doubled and drove in three runs.

Matt DenHartog singled, doubled and scored.

Frank Garcia singled and had one RBI.

Jared Pugrad walked, singled twice and scored.

Calix Armijo singled and scored, and Sevon Battle walked and scored in the loss.
