In the summer of 1997, high school baseball players, primarily from Roosevelt, Garfield, San Gabriel, and St. Paul were recruited by the former head coach at St. Paul, Leo Gutierrez, and Mark Viramontes, to form the first Eat L.A. Dodgers Connie Mack team.  Al Cone, the head coach at East L.A. College was gracious enough to offer the East L.A. College baseball field and facilities as our home field.

The program is led by Leo Gutierrez. Gutierrez graduated from St. Mary's College in Perryville, Missouri with BA in Philosophy in 1975. He received his master's in education at Fort Wright College in Spokane, Washington. Coach Leo taught 20 years in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles school system, including 13 years at St Paul HS, where he was Athletic Director and head baseball coach. At St. Paul he compiled a record of 203-103, with 3 league titles, 11 CIF playoff appearances and 13 winning seasons and several top 10 Division 1 rankings. As Director of East Los Angeles Youth Baseball Association, Coach Leo takes pride in providing his players with the opportunities to advance their baseball careers through the highly competitive East LA Dodgers. We are looking forward to our 25th season as an organization in 2021, and are eager to embrace the challenge of competing in the Sunset League.

It's not often that a team out-hits an opponent by 10 and loses.

But that was the case for the National League in Wednesday's Sunset League All-Star game at Cypress College.

In spite of a 17-7 disparity in base hits, including an 8-2 disadvantage in extra-base hits, the American team claimed a 9-5 victory.

Aside from the only stat that matters (the final score), the A.L. did draw 10 walks to just two for the N.L.

Shane Stafford walked, singled, scored and had an RBI.

Stafford was named the game's MVP.

Kyle Douphner doubled, scored and drove in one run.

Trevor Lukkes walked, doubled and scored.

Benny Vogel singled, scored and had one RBI.

AJ Santamaria walked twice and scored, while Chris Butterfield and Jared Benash walked once and scored one run each.

Agustine Gutierrez had an RBI single, and David Baruch and DJ Graham walked and scored one run apiece.
