The Inland Valley Bucs are one of the premiere collegiate baseball programs in Southern California.

Each and every year, Charlie Reynoso’s mates take the program to the next level.

Players come from far and wide to play for the Bucs. In fact, some schools represented have included Cal State Fullerton, Coppin State, Fordham, Hawaii, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Long Beach State, Louisiana Tech, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, Pepperdine, Texas Tech, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

Sunset League Players of the Week:

Quintt Landis, Ventura County Pirates:

Landis went 8-for-15 in a week that his Pirates claimed the BOTW title.

He walked twice, hit two HR’s, scored four runs and had six RBIs.

This season, Landis batted .395 with 15 hits, scored nine runs and had nine RBIs.

The Pirates will open the playoffs on Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday’s Dodgers-So Cal Shepherds wild card game.

Juan Guardado, East Los Angeles Dodgers:

Guardado went 10-for-19 and scored four runs.

He walked twice, had two doubles, one HR and two RBIs.

For the season, Guardado hit. .300, with 21 hits, 16 runs and had eight RBIs.

The Dodgers face the So Cal Shepherds today (Tuesday) in a BOTW wild card game.

Hayden Winters, IV Bucs:

Winters finished the 2022 regular season, going 7-of-14.

He scored three runs, doubled twice and had one triple.

For the year, Winters batted .360, with 18 hits and scored 12 runs.

He had six doubles, two triples, two home runs and had a team-high 14 RBIs.

The Bucs finished last in the BOTW standings.

Baseball:

With three games remaining in their Best of the West League Schedule, the Ventura County Pirates took a half-game lead over the second-place Inland Valley Pirates, thanks to Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the IV Bucs.

The Pirates got one in the top of the first inning and three more in the seventh to pull away from the Bucs.

Alex Abbot went six innings and allowed one run on six hits.

Abbot walked one and fanned a pair of IVB batters.

Andrew Tovar was credited with the win, going two scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out one.

Andrew Dusablon earned the save after striking out the side.

Nate Slaman singled and hit a solo shot to account for the Bucs offense.

Hayden Winters had a game-high three singles.

Nin Burns, Devon Diaz, Ryan Kim and Christian Killian had one hit apiece in Tuesday's loss.

Nicolas Ramirez was struck with the loss.

Ramirez allowed four runs on seven hits over his seven-inning performance.

Former Maranatha High School stud, Eli Paton, doubled, tripled, scored and drove in half of the Pirates four runs.

Robbie Treto singled and hit a solo HR.

Andrew Tovar singled twice and scored.

Andrew Buglino also had a pair of singles and scored one run.

Quintt Landis had an RBI base hit.

Up next: The Pirates will host the IV Pirates today (Wednesday), and with a win, they'd have a 1.5 game lead with two to play.

Baseball:

The Inland Valley Bucs took an 11-0 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

And they would hold on for an 11-10 victory over the So Cal Shepherds in Sunday's Best of the West slugfest.

The game would feature 21 runs, 24 hits and six pitchers.

Thirteen of the 24 hits were of the extra-base variety, including three home runs and 10 doubles.

SCS pitcher Sam Mueller got roughed up for 10 runs on seven hits in 4 2/ innings of work.

He walked four and struck out three IV Bucs batters.

Nate Campos-Jaramillo doubled, homered, scored twice and drove in a game-high six runs.

Dante Catalino walked twice, homered, scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Chad Green walked, doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Hayden Winters doubled and scored twice.

Christian Killian singled, doubled and drove in one run.

Connor Tallakson was credited with the win, allowing three runs on four hits in his two innings on Sunday.

Aaron Zubiate walked, hit a solo HR and doubled, scored and drove in a run.

Alex Laureano singled, doubled, had one RBI and scored twice.

Shane Poe walked, singled, doubled, scored and had one RBI.

Andrew White went 2-for-4, with a double, two runs and one RBI.

Raul Soto Romero singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Rhett Stein walked and scored twice.

Brenden Coffindaffer singled twice, doubled, scored and had two RBIs.

Drew Salyers doubled, scored and drove in one run.
